Apple has added a Pay Once & Play category, otherwise known as normal game buying. This category is exactly what it says, you pay for your app up front and you play unhindered by microtransaction requests or egg timer gameplay.
Apps range from 99c/79p upwards to a more premium $10.
The description in the store for this new category is
Enjoy hours of uninterrupted fun with complete experiences spanning the App Store’s most beloved genres. Packed with thrills and unforgettable moments, these powerhouse games belong in every collection.
The category is broken down into groups including Recent Releases which includes games such as Gunbrick, Evoland and Lara Croft and the Guardians of Light. An App Store Originals area includes games like Threes!. The Blockbuster Games group which includes titles such as Thomas Was Alone, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Limbo, BioShock, Goat Simulator and GTA: Chinatown Wars.
This category addition comes as mobile phone stores look to better user experience after historical confusion and well documented incidents highlighting how Free to Play games are less than free, especially when children go un-monitored with account details sometimes running up thousands of dollars/pounds/euros in bills from in app purchases. Apple even changed the button text which previously said FREE to GET.
