Nintendo is calling an end to Club Nintendo, their loyalty program which started back in 2007.
By registering games and filling out surveys gamers could earn “Stars” which could then be exchanged for vouchers and the occasional exclusive item. The system really never took hold outside of it’s native home of Japan.
The closure will be gradually introduced with Stars being obtainable until the 31st March. The New Nintendo 3DS and games will not count towards Stars but other Nintendo platforms will continue to do so until the shut down is complete. Nintendo gamers in North America have until the 30th June to spend their Stars while European counterparts will have until the 30th September. More details including rules on redeeming Stars have been posted on the Nintendo UK site.
Nintendo has confirmed that another rewards program will be introduced at some point during this year.
