Logging back in to the previous generation version wasn’t an option either as it wasn’t possible to play online again after trying to transfer the online character.
Rockstar acknowledged the issue and confirmed they were working on a solution, they also confirmed that it related to players who last played GTA Online in 2013 (around the time the new generation of consoles came out).
Their support site was updated with an update on the situation and announced the PlayStation 4 version had the fix with the Xbox One fix coming tomorrow.
11/18/14 Update: This issue has now been addressed for PlayStation®4 and Playstation 3 users, and will be addressed for Xbox One and Xbox 360 users by tomorrow. Xbox One players can still log in to Grand Theft Auto Online but will not be able to transfer characters until the fix is in place.
GTA V is due for release on PC starting on the 17th January 2015
