World of Warcraft: The Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion for the 10 year old MMORPG released on PC and Mac last week but the release has been a little rocky. Players have reported numerous issues including the game locking up during loading, long wait times to join and servers being unavailable.
Blizzard have created numerous posts on their site providing updates on status and ongoing efforts to rectify the problems, this included a 5 hour maintenance window for European servers on Saturday while they updated server hardware.
Blizzard also acknowlegded the issues players have been facing with an announcement
While the majority of our players are able to play, we’re very sorry that many are stuck in queues before they’re able to get in, due to a combination of demand and the mitigating measures we’ve taken. We’ve been working around the clock to upgrade hardware as well as implement further software solutions so that we can reduce the queues to get in, and we’ve already seen considerable improvement.
To add insult to injury, WoW servers were also the target of a denial of service attack (DDoS) which prevented players accessing some servers.
