According to an interview between Blizzard and Polygon, the company has decided to cancel development of their MMO title, Titan. Titan was in development for seven years before the plug was pulled even though the project was never officially announced by the company.
Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime told Polygon
We didn’t find the fun, we didn’t find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that’s the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no.
Chris Metzen, Blizzard’s senior vice president of story and franchise development, posed the question: “Are we the MMORPG company?”
Morhaime answered that question directly: “We don’t want to identify ourselves with a particular genre. We just want to make great games every time.”
Metzen and Morhaime both suggest that the likes of Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm has played some part in the decision to move away from Titan. Metzen explained that Hearthstone had helped the studio realise that they don’t need to only make products of a certain scale.
