GaymerX is returning for a third time after previously mentioning that the second conference would be it’s last after financial issues. A number of developers and publishers stepped up and donated $3000 a piece to keep the conference going. Devolver Digital, Dim Bulb Games, Coffee Stain Studios, Mike Bithell, Bertil Hörberg, Asher Vollmer, Tinsley PR and Blizzard Entertainment all donated to the cause with the former putting up $10k. The team over at GaymerX also set up a KickStarter to gain additional funding.
Not only did the third conference get the financial support it needed, the organisers chose to re-brand the event as GX3: Everyone Games to remove confusion as to who was welcome at the event. Their Kickstarter campaign aimed to clarify the re-branding
We’ve become more and more aware that not all of our attendees identify with the ‘gaymer’ label, and while we love all our gay dude friends, we realise there are more people than that who want an awesome space to hang with their friends in a safe and diverse environment. We want to make sure we represent everyone who feels like they’ve been left out of mainstream gamer culture.
The GX3: Everyone Games Kickstarter has raised $18,338 of its $80K goal since it launched yesterday. As is normal with Kickstarter, they have added a few stretch goals for what will happen should they pass their goal. If they reach $90K it will share some of the panels via YouTube and should they reach $100K, GaymerX will host a game jam at the event.
