UPDATE: Obviously this didn’t come to be. Instead, Amazon purchased Twitch.tv for $970 (£585m) million in cash.
Google has completed to purchase of Twitch in a $1 billion deal according to Venture Beat citing sources familiar with the matter.
Google’s previous acquisition, the YouTube division is reportedly in charge of the deal. Google previously acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion. YouTube has previously attempted live streaming to its service but has failed to get a real foothold in the market which Twitch dominates. Twitch has more than 50 million monthly active users and more than 1.1 million members who broadcast videos each month accounting for over 13 billion minutes of video per month on Twitch.
