Yu Suzuki is researching Kickstarter, and looking into the possibilities of using it to fund future projects. During this years GDC, Suzuki said with the “right opportunity” he would make Shenmue 3 during his Shenmue post-mortem.
Speaking with Eurogamer they asked if he would use crowd funding like Kickstarter to make the sequel to which he replied “”Yes, I am researching it.”
The previous Shenmue games cost around $70 million each to make for the Dreamcast (and later the original Xbox), a figure which was almost unheard of in the games industry back when they were made.
So while this isn’t a definite, it is a step in the right direction to see Shenmue on our play list once again.
