As we previously saw, PlayStation 4 costs Sony $381 per console to manufacture. It is now time for Microsoft’s Xbox One to go under the screw driver to see how much it costs them to make the console.
The Xbox One comes in at $90 more to make than the PlayStation 4 at $471 including parts and manufacturing. The main costs going the AMD chip at $110, the controller costing $15 and the new Kinect adding up to $75.
Microsoft makes some savings over the PlayStation 4 by using DDR3 memory from SK Hynix which cost about $60, about $28 less than the DDR5 that is found in the PS4.
The parts used to assemble the console itself excluding the cost for the Kinect, controller or PSU brick (costs $25), cost $332.
