Microsoft’s latest console with all its new features doesn’t account for European and UK TV broadcasts running at 50Hz according to tests of the Xbox One which runs at 60Hz on the Dashboard.
Website HDTVTest.co.uk first flagged up the problem, which occurs when you run a live TV feed from your set-top box, such as a Freeview HD, Sky or Virgin Media box, into Microsoft’s console using the HDMI-in port.
What this means for those in Europe is that every sixth frame will be a duplicate. This leads to a display that appears to judder especially when there is a lot of side to side movement such as; scrolling text on news channels, fast pans in movies etc.
How Microsoft will address the issue is another matter, they could look to support both 50Hz and 60Hz or lock the Dashboard to 50Hz display while TV components are being displayed and then switch back to 60Hz when games are running.
