Blockbuster UK enters administration, again.
News hit earlier that UK high street retailer Blockbuster has once again gone into administration.
After a bail out by Gordon Brothers Europe back in March this year, things started looking up for one of the only remaining high street Video and Game Rental stores.
Over the last 6 months, Gordon Brothers Europe attempted a rescue by restructuring and even negotiating with landlords to bring rent down on premises, unfortunately this wasn’t enough to save them.
A deal was in the works to deliver a new digital service but a licensing deal with Blockbuster LCC, who own the brand, could not be agreed.
The company will now focus on, “giving the company a chance of future survival through a reduced and different business model in the hope that a buyer will be found.”
Frank Morton, chief executive of Gordon Brothers Europe, had this to say:
“Since the acquisition, we have worked extremely hard to reignite the Blockbuster brand, make our investment work and put the business on a viable footing.
“Despite our best efforts, we regret that we are now forced to make some redundancies and would like to thank any affected employees for their support during the last six months.”
The upshot of all this is that Blockbuster have announced they will no longer be able to fulfill any XBOX ONE or PS4 preorders.
Hundreds of gamers have taken to twitter to vent their frustration,
@Blockbuster_UK You have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with! I’ve tried to call 20 times and have sent emails WITH NO ANSWER.
