American McGee has ended the OZombie campaign on Kickstarter 20 days early, according to the pre-closing post the campaign was closed for a couple of reasons. The primary reason given is McGee’s pursuit of the Alice film rights which he hoped to create a second campaign to obtain the money but due to Kickstarter’s rules on how many campaigns someone can have active at any one time prevented this. The opportunity for the Alice film rights are a closing window which is also why McGee abruptly pulled the plug on the Oz campaign for now.
Secondly, the funding for Oz wasn’t trending favourably for a successful completion having reached 15% of funding in the first half of the campaign putting it at 30% funded at the close of funding.
The Oz project may not have been cancelled indefinitely however as the focus on obtaining Alice takes priority and Oz may return to Kickstarter later. As McGee put it
We’ll sacrifice Oz today in order to have a real chance with Alice.
The campaign to obtain the Alice film rights has not gone live at the time of writing. You can find out more information on Facebook at facebook.com/AliceOtherlands.
